In her earliest memories, Second Baptist Church (SBC) has been an integral part of her life’s narrative. Whether attending services or witnessing the active participation of a family member, the connection to SBC has been enduring and profound. Her journey took a sacred turn when her husband, Galen, and she chose SBC as the venue for their marriage, and their 2 young men, Reagan & Colin, were baptized within those hallowed walls.
Around two decades ago, her venture into ministry began as a volunteer, prompted by her role as a parent when her kids were in Cubbies for Awanas. As a parent, the natural inclination is to be where your children are, and so, she delved into their spiritual education, wanting to understand what they were being taught and who was guiding them. Over the years, she transitioned from observer to active participant, progressing through elementary school ministries, volunteering, and contributing wherever needed.
A transformative chapter unfolded when she found herself at a former out-of-town church, presented with the opportunity to assume leadership roles. This experience, marked by personal and professional growth, eventually led to a position on the church staff. The valuable learning experiences during this time included gaining a mentor, a connection that she cherishes and maintains to this day.
Returning to Amarillo in 2015, her family embraced SBC as their spiritual home once again. She joined Second Baptist Church as a staff member in 2018, and within the vibrant community, her responsibilities encompass diverse roles, including Children’s Ministry Director, Nursery Director, Women’s Ministry Co-Leader, and contributions to the Social Marketing Team and Special Events.
One of her greatest joys is being around the children—their humor and entertaining personalities never fail to brighten her day. Witnessing a child pray aloud for the first time brings an unparalleled sense of reward. Moreover, seeing the spark in their eyes as they begin to comprehend the depth of Jesus’ love is a source of profound inspiration.
As she reflects on this journey, her favorite verse, 1 Corinthians 2:9, resonates deeply within her: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind can imagine what God has prepared for those who love him.” This verse encapsulates the essence of her faith and the limitless possibilities that unfold through love for our Creator.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind can imagine what God has prepared for those who love him.
— 1 Corinthians 2:9
To sum up, her life’s narrative echoes a lifelong dedication to Second Baptist Church—a commitment interwoven with family, ministry, and an unwavering passion for fostering spiritual growth within the community. .
