The Short Trip from Ownership to Stewardship | Psalm 50:4–15 | March 22, 2026
Stewardship over Ownership Series
Sermon by Rev. Larry Davis | Second Baptist Church Amarillo, TX
It is easy to begin thinking that the things in our hands belong entirely to us. Our time, possessions, abilities, opportunities, and resources can quietly become sources of pride or control. Yet Scripture reminds us that everything we have ultimately belongs to God.
In Psalm 50, the Lord makes His sovereign claim clear. He does not need anything from us, because the world and everything in it are already His. True stewardship begins when we stop treating Gods gifts as our personal possessions and begin asking how He wants them to be used.
This passage reveals the subtle cause of a sinking ship, the sovereign claim of ownership, and the serious call to stewardship. When we understand that God is the rightful Owner, our perspective changes. Gratitude replaces entitlement. Faithfulness replaces control. Our lives become an offering of thanksgiving and trust.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.”
Psalm 50:12 NKJV
This message invites us to examine the way we view what God has placed in our hands. Are we trying to hold tightly to what was never truly ours? Are we faithfully using our time, resources, and abilities for His glory? Are we willing to trust the One who owns it all?
Come ready to be encouraged and challenged as we begin this new series and learn what it means to live as faithful stewards of everything God has entrusted to us.
